  • William Shakespeare William Shakespeare — English poet and playwright, often considered the greatest English language writer and one of the best playwrights in the world. Often called England's national poet. Shakespeare was born and grew up in Stratford-upon-Avon. Have very little historical evidence about Shakespeare's life and theories about life are based on official documents and testimonies of contemporaries, so the scientific community still discusses issues regarding his appearance and religious beliefs, and there is a view that attributed to him the work created by someone else
  • Career began Career began Shakespeare between 1585 and 1592, when he moved to London. He soon became a successful actor, playwright, and co-owner of a theatre company called "the Servants of the Lord Chamberlain's men", later known as the "Servant king". Around 1613 at the age of 48 he returned to Stratford where he died three years later.
  • Shakespeare and his work Most of the works of Shakespeare written between 1589 and 1613. His early plays are mostly in comedies and Chronicles in which Shakespeare has greatly succeeded. Then in his work it was a period of tragedy, including works of "hamlet," "King Lear", "Othello" and "Macbeth", which are among the best in the English language. At the end of his career, Shakespeare wrote several tragicomedies and collaborated with other writers.
  • During his lifetime Shakespeare received accolades about their work, but really it became popular only in the XIX century. In particular, representatives of romanticism and the Victorians so admired Shakespeare, Bernard Shaw called it "bargepoles". His plays remain popular in our days, are constantly studied, performed and reinterpreted in accordance with the political and cultural conditions.
  • First publication As it is considered, half (18) plays of Shakespeare were published in one way or another during lifetime of the playwright. The main publication of the Shakespearean heritage is considered to be folio in 1623 (the so-called "First folio") published by Edward Blount and William Jaggard in the so-called "Cesaresco collection"; Worral printers and number. This edition includes 36 of Shakespeare's plays — all except for "Pericles" and "Two noble kinsmen". This project was made possible thanks to the efforts of John Heminge and Henry Condell, friends and colleagues of Shakespeare. The book contains a message to readers on behalf of Heminge and Condell, as well as a poetic homage to Shakespeare on the part of the playwright Ben Johnson also contributed to the publication of the First Folio.
  • The Style Of William Shakespeare The first plays were written in Shakespeare's language, normal for pieces of this period. It is a stylized language that does not always gives the playwright to reveal their characters. Poetry is often overwhelmed with complicated metaphors and sentences, but the language is more conducive to the recitation of text than the live game. For example, the Grand speeches in Titus Andronicus, in the view of some critics, often hold up the action; and the verse "Two noblemen of Verona" seems unnatural
  • Reputation and criticism Although, during his lifetime, Shakespeare was not considered a great playwright, he received praiseworthy reviews of their works. In 1598 the writer-priest Francis Mary singled him out English writers as "the most excellent" in Comedy and tragedy. And the authors of the playbook "Parnassus" compared Shakespeare with Chaucer, Gower and Spenser. In the First folio, Ben Jonson called Shakespeare: "the Soul of the age, the applause, delight, the wonder of our stage".
  • Russian writer Leo Tolstoy in his critical essay "On Shakespeare and drama" on the basis of detailed analysis of some of the most popular of Shakespeare's works, in particular: "King Lear", "Othello", "Falstaff", "hamlet" and others criticized the ability of Shakespeare as a playwright
  • Classification of the plays Shakespeare's works include the 36 plays published in 1623 in the First folio, the division in which there are Comedy, Chronicles and tragedies given in accordance with this publication. In the First folio not included two plays, Two noble kinsmen and Pericles, who are now considered part of the Canon, and scholars agree that Shakespeare has made in their writing a great contribution. Poems of Shakespeare in the First folio had not been published.
